Proclaiming The Good News Of Jesus
Can you lose your salvation?
Salvation is the most amazing undeserved gift. It is when a sinner accepts the forgiveness available as a result of the Lord Jesus' sacrifice and is saved from eternal damnation and death. When someone realises their sin and unworthiness, believes upon the Lord Jesus Christ and trusts in Him they can say with confidence and assurance that they have been saved and are children of the living God. But is this salvation secure? The answer is yes! When a person comes to know Jesus Christ as their Saviour they have the promise and guarantee of God that their salvation is fully and eternally secure
When a person is truly born again the Holy Spirit works and transforms that person over time to live and want to obey God’s Word. Colossians 3:9-10 reminds us that a true Christian has "taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator." If someone becomes a Christian and their "old self was crucified with Him" Romans 6:6, how then can they lose their new self and regain something long gone? The second someone is justified and becomes a Christian it is impossible to go back to their old lost ways. Christians may sadly backslide. Christians may sadly have their faith weakened. Christians may even say that they were never saved and it was all a mistake, but the reality is that if someone was truly saved then God will always bring them back to Himself.
Perhaps the most reassuring fact that reminds us that our salvation is eternally secure is the biblical doctrine of predestination. Romans 8:30 says, "And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified." This verse puts our Christian life into perspective. God not only elected a Christian personally before the beginning of time but then justified them. In the Bible, God makes and keeps many promises. God ultimately is the God of promises. If someone has been chosen and justified then surely God will bring the rest of His plan to fruition by glorifying in His presence in heaven. There is absolutely nothing that will stop a true believer who has chosen and justified from being glorified in heaven because that has always been and will always be Gods perfect plan.
Therefore, can we lose this precious gift of salvation? The answer is no. Once saved we are always saved. If you have truly sacrificed the ways of the world and turned to Jesus, then you will always be saved and are promised eternal life in the kingdom of heaven. Ezekiel 36:26 describes the change in a person when they are saved "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." and Romans 8:38-39 sums up the security that we can be assured of as children of the living God "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord". Anyone who truly is saved is 100% eternally secure!
